Koppert tries to reach low residues level in agriculture
The Dutch multinational is expanding its biological control products to the strawberry and citrus fruits growings, and undertakes an expansion of its market share to many South American and Asian countries.
Kris de Smet, Commercial Director of Koppert Spain, is attending to the present edition of Fruit Logística with a clear aim: he wants to guarantee that the agriculture in Almería is clean and that the general tendency here is to reach "the minimun residues level". Reaching this minimun residues level is almost impossible for any company, but "you can make great things with biological control to fight the plagues in a natural way, and with really low levels", he said, refering to chemical residues.
This is patently obvious: Smet remembers that the Spanish agriculture has gone from a 40% of biological control of cucumber, up to a 70%. Same happened to the tomatoes, that increased from 20% to 50%.
Koppert Spain is actively working on reducing those levels and also on promoting the use of auxiliary fauna to many other growings. "We have almost 1000 hectares of biological control of strawberry in Huelva and we are also beginning with the citrus fruits' sector", said de Smet. The Company commercializes its products to many "important companies", above all in Seville, Huelva, Murcia, and Valencia.
The application of its products in fruit growing are top-quality since they are working with certain kind of insects. In the case of citrus fruits, the ones causing the most damage are the California red louses, as for the strawberries is the red spider.
Throughout these days of fair, the Dutch multinational Koppert will be showing off its huge range of products, and will be forging alliances with old and new international customers. Nowadays, his efforts to make its market shares bigger, are focused on countries of South America and China. China represents "a big challenge" in the biological product application.
